About Us

Who We Are

To put the entire complexity of our church personality into one word, it would have be "genuine". In this present age it can be so difficult to find what is true, real, and pure. But this cozy family of faithful believers continuously demonstrates a genuine love and kindness towards each other and to the Lord Jesus Christ. What we lack in the eyes of the world, we make up for in abundance of the goodness of God shining through the hearts of the church body.

West Waynesboro Church of Christ is part of a family of churches whose roots trace back to the Restoration Movement. A time when pastors of various denominations desired to return the organization of church back to its origin of relational disciples worshipping their Savior in spirit and in truth. The principles of that movement are what guide us in living out the gospel of Jesus to which we have surrendered our lives.
The Bible is our first and final authority on understanding our relationship with God. We worship with instruments, voices, and open hearts. We act in accordance with scripture knowing that to love the Lord is to be obedient to His commands. We serve with full hearts sharing Jesus' love in many outreach programs, international missions, and inside the walls of this church caring for each other. We don't have it all, but we have all we need, because all we need God has always provided,.

Our Beliefs

We believe that God is one being with three persons. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Our God is the Creator of the universe, the personal savior of all who believe in Jesus Christ, and the sanctifying Spirit that dwells in us. He is the God of the Old and New Testament.

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was with God at creation, came to earth in the form of man, was born of the virgin Mary, suffered and died of crucifixion to pay the penalty for our sin, and resurrected on the third day to validate his authority and return to sit at the right hand of God the Father. We believe Jesus will return again, coming in the clouds of heaven as the bible reveals.

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, authoritative word of God. The Holy Scriptures include all 66 books of the Old and New Testament. It is one story, given by God, written down by many authors over many years to reveal God's plan of salvation, redemption, and restoration to all humanity.

We believe that the gospel is the good news of salvation through the work of Jesus Christ. All people are born separated from God. The love of God sent a means of re-establishing our connection with Him by paying for our sin though the death of Jesus. Sin deserves to be punished, but the mercy of God took that punishment upon himself for all who would place their faith in Jesus Christ. Our faith in Jesus redeems us from sin and secures our souls to live eternally with the Lord. This gift of salvation is available to all, one must simply confess, repent, and place their faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe in the full bodily water immersion of believers in Jesus for the process of baptism. Jesus instructed his disciples to go into the world, share the gospel and baptize believers into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus exemplified this practice by being baptized himself by John the Baptizer. It is the external expression of faith in Jesus to the community of believers as well as to the world around us. As followers of Christ we should desire to obey his instructions and follow his example.

We celebrate the Lord's Supper every Sunday with a devotion and time of reflection and remembrance as we take the bread and drink the cup. Our practice is to pass the elements out to each individual. We request that only those who have committed their life to Christ participate in communion. We further expect that each follower of Jesus would treat this time with sincerity and reflection, not taking the elements "in an unworthy manner", but with a heart of reverence and worship of the Lord Jesus Christ.
